Description
The Book of Proverbs is a handbook for experiencing shalom, the blessing of God. While we are not guaranteed health, wealth, safety, and harmony, our lives will be better if we live according to God's revealed truth and act according to his revealed counsel. The purpose of this five-session Bible Study Course is to understand that God's ways are wise by building a house of wisdom. We'll examine what it means to fear God, guard our tongue, guide our youth, and make use of our maturity.
Session One
Lay the Foundation for Peace
The fear of the Lord is a foundation you can build on.
Proverbs 1:7, 9:10
The purpose of this study is to help us understand what it means to fear the Lord.
Session Two
Clear the Debris of Misunderstanding
Most people react negatively to fearing the Lord, yet we cannot experience God's fullness without it.
Proverbs 9:10–11; 10:27; 19:23; 28:14
There is still some debris, or misunderstandings, down in the footings. In this study we will identify and eliminate this debris.
Session Three
The Power of the Tongue
This small body part can mean life or death.
Proverbs 18:20–21
While many other proverbs deal with the specific life-giving or deadly powers of the tongue—such as truthfulness and lying, or soft and angry words—the verses we will examine in this study are more sweeping in their declaration.
Session Four
Advice to Youth
Give your life to wisdom, and wisdom will give life to you.
Proverbs 4:20–27
The verses we will look at in this study describe how the inexperienced and naïve should give their bodies (eyes, ears, heart, feet) to wisdom in order to experience life in its fullest.
Session Five
How to Age Well
A head of gray is a crown of glory at the end of a righteous story.
Proverbs 16:31, 20:29
This study is about the joy of growing older.
This Study Through the Bible Course is based on a sermon series by Jeffrey Arthurs.
